Welcome to Literacy Seminar, EDI 736!

Carole's Thesis Writing Belief Statement
*
All writing begins with an idea, but writing is a recursive process that allows writers to discover particulars of what they think.
*
Thesis writing requires engagement with multiple texts as thesis writers develop questions that need answers.
*
Thesis writers investigate published, peer reviewed texts to learn how knowledgeable others have engaged the same, or similar, questions.
*
Thesis writers develop a research plan that will lead the writer to new findings.
*
Thesis writers reach conclusions through a recursively occurring synthesis of ideas
from multiple sources: the writer's thoughts, others' research, the writer's investigative findings.
*
Thesis writers work through multiple revisions to present a final product that illustrates
the author's well-earned status as a graduate of The College at Brockport's Childhood Literacy Master's Program.

Little Known Facts about EDI 736
*
A literacy thesis is unlike any other previous work required in our program.
This is the culminating project for literacy specialists. In the end,
you will have a project that shows you know how to conduct and
present literacy research worthy of dissemination.
*
A literacy thesis requires
  • development of a measureable research question,
  • thorough understanding of previous writings about your subject,
  • a comprehensive research plan based on your research question,
  • thorough data collection based on your research question,
  • thorough analysis of the data collected
  • conclusions, implications, and recommendations drawn from your research
  • multiple revisions as ideas are encountered and engaged
  • a thoroughly edited written presentation
*
A literacy thesis generally takes more than one semester to complete, and it is not finished until it is finished.
*
You are undoubtedly already a good writer; you will be a better writer by the time you finish your thesis.
*
We work together to help you develop a finished thesis that you will be pleased to find housed in Drake Library.
